Monday August 15th

Rain woke me up early. It stopped before we actually got up for the day though. It turned out to be a hot and overcast day. No humidity here.

We all slept in and got a late start again. On the way out, we stopped at the office to book another night. This is a really great campsite and the owners here are really great. It’s a wide open park, not too strict and super friendly. The park is owned by two men who live in a trailer right beside the office. When I booked my site, Michael asked me if we would be visiting any of the provincial parks and gave me his pass for the day. We have to pay $23 per day to visit the park, so one day pays for more then half of my site for the extra night. He’s always joking about wanting to steal our truck.

Today we’re off to spend more money at the Wax Museum of the Stars and Ripley’s Believe it or Not Museum. After a quick stop at the Toy Factory to buy everyone their own marble game, we headed to the museums where we saw some really neat and very bizarre things. Cher, Shrek, Eddie Murphy and Kramer are all on display at the wax museum, Pieces of the Berlin Wall, shrunken heads and necklaces made from human finger bones were over at Ripley’s. The kids enjoyed both a lot. At the end of the Ripley’s they had a booth set up where the kids could dip their hands into wax to make wax hands. Xavier wasn’t able to keep his hand still long enough without cracking the wax. I guess it felt weird on his hands and he didn’t understand that he wasn’t supposed to move his fingers. The wax hands are very suseptable to heat, so we had to drop them off at the trailer to keep them cool.

We tried to follow a map to the next provincial park, but again the maps aren’t clear. We stopped at a little stand on the side of the road to pick up some fries. The kids were starving, and we knew dinner would be late because it was already 4:00 and we were just heading to the beach. We found our way to Brackley Beach and drove out onto Robinson’s Island. We couldn’t find any clear way to a beach there, so we made our way back to the main beach, complete with change houses and lifeguards. The kids went in, but Guylaine and I found the water a bit cold. The kids were finding the usually hermit crabs, but also the larger crabs as well. The water here is so clear, it’s easy to spot them, even at waist deep. We went for a walk down the beach. The water seemed to get warmer as we went along. The tide was coming up, and at about 7:00 we decided to head home. The beach was nice, but not the spectacular scenery from yesterday. Soft, but not red sand, and dunes, no cliffs or worn rock.

We needed groceries, so we headed into Charlottetown, then back to the campsite. We stopped by the office for firewood, but they were closed. We went to the dumpster to drop off some garbage and Michael came out to see if we needed anything. He opened the store to get us wood and I gave him his pass. He said I could use it again tomorrow if I wanted. The service here is really unbelievable.

Xavier passed out in the truck on the way here, so we had to wake him to wash him. It was another sand filled evening for him. At least he kept his water down tonight. He went straight to bed with no supper. Poor guy. He’ll have us all up early tomorrow I’m sure.

The rest showered while I made spagetti and garlic bread outside and Guylaine got everything ready inside. Sammy put himself in charge of preping the fire and I gave him permission to light it shortly after we ate. We didn’t have much in the way of kindling, and the wood was a bit wet, but he kept at it. He blew on that fire like a fat kid blowing out the candles on a birthday cake, and he managed to get it going long after I had given up on it. After a bit of musical beds again, the kids went to bed late. Guylaine and I called it an early night. Only 2 sleeps left until we start heading back to reality.
